Scrap glossary
What is Zorba (mixed non-ferrous)?
Zorba is the trade name for shredded mixed non-ferrous scrap. It is mostly aluminium, with smaller amounts of copper, brass, zinc, stainless steel and some leftover plastic or rubber, recovered after the steel has been removed from shredded cars and appliances.
Zorba is graded by its metal content and how much dirt or non-metal it contains; cleaner zorba with more aluminium sells higher.
Buyers usually sort zorba further by hand or with water separation to get pure aluminium, copper and brass.
Pakistan imports zorba for local sorting and melting, and its price follows aluminium and copper markets.
