Copper scrap (tamba) is the most valuable common metal sold to kabaris in Pakistan. It comes mostly from electric wire, motor windings, pipes and transformers, and its price follows the international copper market closely.

How to identify each grade
Bare bright wire
Clean, shiny, uncoated wire with no paint, solder or green oxidation. Highest price.
No.1 copper
Clean pipe, bus bar and thick wire with little or no tarnish.
No.2 copper
Copper with paint, solder, oxidation or small fittings attached.
Insulated cable
Wire still inside PVC or rubber. Priced on how much copper is inside.
What affects the copper scrap price?
- International copper price (LME) and the US dollar to rupee rate.
- Purity: shiny bare wire sells far higher than painted or soldered copper.
- Insulation: cable is priced on its copper recovery, so thin household wire earns less than thick cable.
- Quantity: dealers pay better for 50 kg and above than for a few kilos.

- Old house and factory wiring, extension cords and data cables.
- Motor, fan, pump and transformer windings.
- AC and fridge pipes, radiators and plumbing fittings.

How to get a better price
